Are you looking for a physical challenge in 2023? Would you like to support Alopecia UK at the same time?
It was great to see lots of challenge events resume at the end of last year and we hope more will follow!
Being the small charity we are, Alopecia UK does not have lots of capacity to purchase large number of places in the various popular challenge events across the UK. However, we have got some places in the popular Great North Run event, a half marathon in Tyne and Wear on 10th September 2023.
We have 10 places available and are inviting applications from our community.
As the places come at a cost to Alopecia UK, we ask for any participants to pay a contribution towards their place (£30), as well as aiming to raise a minimum of £250 in fundraising. Alopecia UK will provide participants with an Alopecia UK t-shirt or vest (subject to availability).
If you are up for a challenge, please apply here.
In the event of there being lots of interest in the charity places, we cannot guarantee you will be successful.
We hope lots of you will consider rising to the challenge for Alopecia UK!
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does Alopecia UK have any places in the 2023 London Marathon?
A: Our final Silver Ballot place (one place every five years) is in 2023. We already have a runner for this place. We wish were were able to obtain more charity places than this but we are unable to. From 2024, we are unclear of the new arrangements for London Marathon charity places but expect we will continue to struggle to obtain any charity places - the competition is fierce!
Q: Are there other fundraising challenge opportunities that I can take part in to raise funds for Alopecia UK?
A: Yes, there are lots and lots of challenge events across the UK. Alopecia UK has only purchased places in the Great North Run, an event we have a successful history of finding runners for. Individuals can however secure their own places in events (purchased directly through event organisers) and use these places to raise funds and awareness for Alopecia UK. We are very lucky that members of the alopecia community have been doing this for us for years. Check out the different challenge events in your local area or further afield by searching the different options online (there are LOTS!)
Q: If physical challenges are not my thing, are there other ways I can support Alopecia UK?
A: Yes, absolutely! There are all sorts of ways you can get involved in fundraising for Alopecia UK. Quizzes, cake sales, dress down days, afternoon teas and 'Wear Blue for Alopecia UK Days' are just a few examples of ways that people have raised funds and awareness for Alopecia UK in the past.
