What is an Alopecia UK support group?

Alopecia UK Support groups offer the chance to meet up with other people affected by alopecia in your area. They are often casual meet ups with opportunities to share both worries and advise with your peers. The group leads are not professional counsellors but people who have personal experiences with alopecia and, along with member of the support group can help to give insight and advice on living and dealing with alopecia on a day to day basis.

Many groups invite speakers such as wig suppliers or dermatologists to their groups and some organise events and fundraisers to both spread awareness and help Alopecia UK continue it's work, including the sustainability and management of these groups.

All our support groups are set up in areas where we have willing, able and enthusiastic volunteers and as such there may be people in some areas who will have to travel to their closest group.

All groups can be filtered by region and type (E.g Adult/ Teen/ Child) to find out more details such as dates and exact locations.

If there is not a group close to you, you could consider setting up your own group. To find out what is required to become an Alopecia UK support group lead please have a good look through the information on our 'Start a Support Group Page' and fill out the expression of interest form.

Please note: We would love to be able to facilitate support groups in all corners of the UK but unfortunately this is not always possible. If there is already a support group within an hour of you, it is unlikely that another will be set up in your area, however if you feel there is a specific need please do feel free to get in touch to query this. The set up of all new groups is at the discretion of Alopecia UK.
